'the jewel of the forest' / 152cm x 122cm /
semi-abstract / acrylic on stretched canvas / available
a couple of
illawarra flame trees caught my eye as i was traversing a tiny pocket of
rainforest...i was surprised by such a dazzling display of colour among the
muted greens...it seemed incongruous in this setting of dank decay and rapid
recycling of nature that occurs in the rainforest...i wanted to capture the
iridescence and permanence of what looked like a lost jewel...two dead trees
hang suspended by branches on the left amongst a sea of blue gums, white cedar,
white mahogany with rosella shrub completing the picture...it has been an
interesting change in my colour range since moving to the gloucester area...i
find it can be darker with less clarity...i look for changes that occur
with the humidity and i notice how the bark on the trees are transformed after
rain...there is a lot more clarity then...i have also found that i am looking
into the landscape instead of at it and looking to represent changes that the
sunlight makes on large and small scales
